Emtelle announces new fiber blowing machine

MAY 8, 2007 -- In the past, two machines were typically needed to blow fiber: One for fiber counts of 1-12 and one for fiber counts of 24-96. The FUSION, by contrast, can blow fiber counts of 1-96 with a diameter of 1 mm to 8 mm.

MAY 8, 2007 -- Australian company Emtelle (search for Emtelle) and Swiss company Plumettaz say they have developed a new blowing machine, dubbed fibreflow FUSION, that can blow fiber counts of 1-96. Previously, two machines would have been required to cover this range, say the companies, who note that the new machine represents a significant development in terms of convenience, ease-of-use, mobility, and reduced investment (search for blown fiber).

In the past, two machines were typically needed to blow fiber: One for fiber counts of 1-12 and one for fiber counts of 24-96. The FUSION, however, can blow fiber counts of 1-96 with a diameter of 1 mm to 8 mm. In addition to Emtelle's range of fiber units, the new machine also can be used with compatible mini-cables from a number of manufacturers.

Emtelle says the FUSION blowing machine offers other important advantages, including ease of transport. This can be a critical consideration when, for example, an installation needs to be performed with maximum speed or when it is being conducted in an environment where thoroughfares are either congested (e.g., in city centers) or rural.

The FUSION also makes life easier for installers, say Emtelle representatives; handling, storing, and maintaining one machine is easier than two. In addition, though the new machine offers enhanced capabilities, it does not demand new skill sets. If installers can use the older machines, transition to the new one will be simple, says the company, which produced a FUSION training manual and DVD to aid in this transition.

Finally, Emtelle reports that the new machine reduces the installer's investment. In fact, by buying the new machine instead of two older machines, customers can reduce their investment by approximately one third, claims the company.

"Emtelle is proud to have developed this new machine with Plumettaz," contends Tibor van Melsem Kocsis, commercial director of Emtelle "We believe that in terms of convenience, efficiency, and costs, it represents a major step forward in the installation, operation, and economics of blown fiber installation."
