Calix offers NG-PON2 TWDM PON support

Broadband access network gear supplier Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) says it will add NG-PON2 TWDM PON capabilities to its E7 Ethernet Service Access Platforms and associated optical network terminals. It appears the company also will offer a new high-capacity cards that will improve the E7's switching and uplink capabilities for other central office and data center applications.

Broadband access network gear supplier Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) says it will add NG-PON2 TWDM PON capabilities to its E7 Ethernet Service Access Platforms and associated optical network terminals. It appears the company also will offer a new high-capacity cards that will improve the E7's switching and uplink capabilities for other central office and data center applications.

NG-PON2 supports four wavelengths of 10 Gbps each. It therefore provides a path from current GPON infrastructure to 10GPON first, then WDM PON as a service provider's requirements demand.

Calix says its NG-PON2 technology will support both fixed and tunable wavelength applications in both the residential and business services domains. Demonstrations of tunable-wavelength TWDM PON and fixed-wavelength 10GPON will take place this fall, says Michel Langlois, Calix senior vice president of systems products.

It is clear that NG-PON2 is going to be the PON technology that enables the multi-gigabit experience of the future, and Calix looks to be ready as this market emerges with a robust solutions-oriented strategy."

Calix plans to show off the new technology in booth #413 at this week's FTTH Connect conference and exposition in Anaheim, CA.
