Conterra Ultra Broadband Holdings, Inc., which provides fiber-optic network services, said it has signed an agreement to acquire a pair of regional fiber-optic network companies, Network USA, LLC and Sun America, LLC (combined, NUSA) to expand Conterra's fiber footprint. The acquisition of Louisiana-based NUSA will broaden Conterra's footprint by almost 3,000 miles in Louisiana and Texas, two of its largest operating states, says the company.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The transaction extends Conterra's regional fiber footprint across the Gulf Coast/East Texas region and offers access to two new states, Arkansas and Mississippi, says Conterra. The NUSA fiber network acquisition follows Conterra's announcement in January of 2017 of its Detel Communications acquisition, another Louisiana-based fiber-optic network services provider (see "Conterra expands fiber footprint with Detel, Broadplex acquisitions").

According to Conterra, it shares the same industry customer segments as Sun America and Network USA, owners and operators of facilities-based lit and dark fiber, including wireless and landline carriers, healthcare organizations, government, and mid-sized and Fortune 500 enterprises.

"This is another important competitive enhancement for Conterra as we densify our infrastructure in existing commercial markets and increase our fiber network connectivity and regional service offerings," said Steve Leeolou, Conterra's chairman and chief executive officer. "This acquisition will connect and expand Conterra's existing networks in the Gulf Coast/East Texas region, while simultaneously adding management, operational and product portfolio depth in dozens of communities in this part of the country."
