DE-CIX Interwire India, which operates as Mumbai Internet Exchange (IX) powered by DE-CIX, says it will make services available at STT's Mumbai carrier hotel facility in this month. The services include direct and settlement-free internet traffic exchange between all participants.

Formerly known as TATA LVSB, the Mumbai hotel is a central hub providing international connectivity to India. DE-CIX says this is the third Mumbai-IX point of presence (PoP) in the metro market.

According to DE-CIX, Mumbai IX is the first DE-CIX exchange on the Indian sub-continent, and connects broadband providers, content delivery networks, cloud companies, and other internet providers. Serving approximately 90 providers, the carrier and data center-neutral IX recently passed the 10-Gbps peak traffic benchmark.

The Mumbai IX core node will launch in additional Indian markets in the near future, and deliver advanced IXP services, backed by enhanced service level agreements (SLAs).

"We are excited to be able to expand into the STT carrier hotel, allowing all networks in the building to benefit from the Mumbai IX offering," said Ivo Ivanov, DE-CIX Interwire India board member. "We will install our award-winning DE-CIX Internet Exchange infrastructure to allow maximum scalability and robustness for Mumbai IX."

DE-CIX and Interwire partnered to launch the "Mumbai IX powered by DE-CIX" brand in 2017, providing international IX services to the Indian market (see "DE-CIX, Mumbai IX partner for internet exchange in India"). The first IXP fully licensed by the Department of Telecommunications, Mumbai IX is the only Indian IXP to be awarded the Open-IX certification, asserts DE-CIX.
