Nokia says Indian internet service provider Spectra has chosen its IP/MPLS routing and GPON technologyfor afiber-optic network build out to meet customers' high-performance broadband service needs. Spectra will be Bangalore's first ISP to deliver affordable 1-Gbps services for residential and enterprise customers alike, Nokia attests.

According to Nokia, demand for greater bandwidth is growing among Spectra's customers, and the provider is delivering a competitively priced 'step jump' in bandwidth, service quality, and reach to address these needs.

Spectra plans to offer broadband networks to major Indian metro markets, addressing demand for video streaming and other data-driven services with its network roll-out in Bangalore. According to Nokia. the network upgrades will move the Indian government closer to its objective of making it one of the top 10 countries in the world for broadband.

Nokia will supply its 7210 Service Access Switch (SAS) and 7750 Service Router (SR) to provide Spectra an IP/MPLS aggregation, edge, and core network. The Nokia Network Services Platform (NSP) will handle end-to-end service provisioning and network assurance, reducing operational costs and enhancing quality for Spectra.

Supporting a broadband network gateway (BNG) function for residential subscriber management, the Nokia 7210 SAS and 7750 SR will offer Ethernet-based IP/MPLS routing. The Nokia 7750 SR will function as an edge router for business VPNs, internet access, cloud, and data center interconnect services, and provide IP routing for enterprise VPN services as well.

Additionally, Nokia is delivering its 7360 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) FX GPON, an access node for mass-market fiber deployments, to provide the network foundation necessary to meet Spectra's future ultra-broadband customer service needs.

The network will be managed end to end by the NSP, and the Service Router Operating System (SROS) will offer automated, on-demand networking, Nokia says. To help Spectra meet its roll-out plan, the company will deliver consulting on network and OSS design as well.

"We are pleased to partner with Nokia to strengthen our network of high bandwidth broadband services for business and home customers," said Udit Mehrotra, Spectra's CEO and managing director. "We are working hard to ensure our offerings and expertise in ultra-high speed broadband access and transport continue to improve the quality of internet consumption in India and support the country's future digital innovations."

Spectra's selection of Nokia's IP/MPLS routing and GPON technology follows a recent announcement that ONE Broadband is also deploying its GPON technology in India to meet customers increasing demand for high-speed services and capacity (see "ONE Broadband deploying Nokia's GPON technology to meet high-speed service and capacity demands").
