Huawei used last week’s CEBIT 2018 trade show to introduce the OSN 9800 M24 as its new enterprise backbone flagship WDM product. The company initially unveiled the M24 a year ago as the OSN 9800 M24 metro Multi-Service Optical Transport Network (MS-OTN) platform.

Huawei used last week’s CEBIT 2018 trade show to introduce the OSN 9800 M24 as its new enterprise backbone flagship WDM product. The company initially unveiled the M24 a year ago as the OSN 9800 M24 metro Multi-Service Optical Transport Network (MS-OTN) platform (see "Huawei OSN 9800 M24 Metro MS-OTN platform simplifies OTN-to-CO connections").

The company says it has designed the OSN 9800 M24 to meet the growing need among enterprises for greater flexibility with lower capex and opex in a smaller footprint. The platform offers what Huawei describes in a press release as “large bandwidth, high integration, flexible boards, low initial investment, and a convenient self-service portal” without further explanation. According to the company’s website, the M24 features 12 or 24 slots and supports ODUk/PKT/VC cross-connect approaches with capacities of 2.4 Tbps/2.4 Tbps/0.96 Tbps. The platform will support transmission rates of 100, 200, and 400 Gbps in the C-Band.

As part of the roll out at CEBIT, Huawei invited Eduardo Grizendi, CTO of Brazilian research and education network operator RNP, to comment on the product. "In the past two years, Huawei 100G WDM backbone OSN 9800 series devices have been deployed to address many challenges and difficulties in long-haul transmission scenarios on Brazil's research network,” he said. “These devices have built a multi-service, efficient, and congestion-free campus network. Now, the OSN 9800 M24 has inherited the high performance of traditional OSN 9800 series and provides higher flexibility as well as more powerful evolution capabilities. Based on this new product, I am more confident about Huawei's innovative capabilities in the optical transport field, and about our future cooperation."
