FairlawnGig said it will now extend internet service beyond the city limits of Fairlawn, OH, to communities in the Greater Akron Region. With dedicated service that remains consistent during peak usage hours, FairlawnGig provides 100-Gbps connections to business customers and up to 10-Gbps connections to household customers.

FairlawnGig's internet service supplies broadband connection at rates that it asserts are considerably smaller than those of commercial carriers. Its customers are also directly connected to reliable cloud services through dedicated fiber, the company says.

Serving both Fairlawn, OH, as well as the Akron-Fairlawn-Bath Township Joint Economic Development District (JEDD), FairlawnGig was founded as a regional economic development infrastructure. Increasing adoption rates have enabled the company to extend ultra-fast broadband to surrounding Greater Akron communities for what it says is an affordablebuild fee. Businesses interested in subscribing are being asked to visit www.FairlawnGig.net for additional information.

"Every day we're approached by organizations as well as households in the region asking to bring our world-class service to their communities," said Ernie Staten, City of Fairlawn Ohio deputy director of public service. "Until now we've been focused on Fairlawn but are pleased that just eighteen months after we started serving Fairlawn in the winter of 2017, we're able to expand to surrounding communities."

Fairlawn began looking for development partners for FairlawnGig in early 2015, and rolling out the necessary infrastructure that August (see "Fairlawn, OH, looking for gigabit broadband partners" and "Fairlawn, OH, to start FairlawnGig gigabit broadband project"). In 2016, FairlawnGig connected the first two businesses to its network, and became the first gigabit city in the state of Ohio (see "FairlawnGig municipal FTTP network connects customers). The municipal open access broadband fiber to the premises (FTTP) and wireless network began delivering internet service in 2017, and continues to grow as a provider for internet needs in Fairlawn, attests the company.
