Midco has selected Parallel Technologies to design and build its new data center in Fargo, ND. Construction on the 16,000-square-foot dual-path, concurrently maintainable facility is scheduled to begin in August, and the facility is slated to be operational in early 2018.

The $12 million data center will host, store and monitor data services for regional and local business services customers. The facility is designed to have immediate capacity for 250 cabinets with another 28,000 square feet available for expansion.

"With data centers in such high demand in the Dakotas, the future-looking design of the new data center demonstrates Midco's commitment to advanced technology and its customers," said Tim Kittila, director data center strategy, Parallel Technologies. "This colocation data center facility will meet the needs of the most sophisticated cloud providers and enterprises and provide the region with capacity to grow and expand economically."

The facility is being built in close proximity to sub-station and power infrastructure and has capacity to provide at least 24 hours of power if there is a catastrophic power outage in the region.

"The standards we are building this data center to is a testament to our commitment to our customers to provide the highest level of IT performance and reliability," said Scott Smidt, vice president of business engineering and operations, Midco. "Through this data center, businesses can have the highest confidence in the protection of their critical data while at the same time interconnecting with local, regional and national providers."

For the project, Parallel Technologies is being tasked with the design and build responsibilities specific to the IT infrastructure and data center requirements. Parallel Technology has also been engaged to provide services in support of upgrade projects at Midco's two other data centers in Sioux Falls and Yankton, SD.
