Charter Communications' (NASDAQ:CHTR) Spectrum Internet Gig is now available to more than 6 million more U.S. homes and businesses. The launches cover more than two dozen new markets, including Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL; Buffalo, NY; Columbia and Myrtle Beach, SC; Madison, WI; the Rio Grande Valley in Texas; and the greater Atlanta and New Orleans areas.
Overall, the DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit Internet service is now offered to more than 70% of Charter's footprint. The company says it's on track to deliver gigabit across nearly its entire 41-state service area by the end of the year.
Also available in Charter's gigabit markets is Spectrum Business Internet Gig, which includes WiFi for lobbies and customer waiting areas, custom domain and email addresses, and cloud backup and security software at no additional charge, with no contracts.
Charter first launched DOCSIS 3.1 gigabit service on Oahu last December. By April, the rollouts had expanded to nearly 23 million homes passed in nearly half of its footprint, and more than 27 million in June.
