Midco is now offering its Xstream Gig DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit Internet service in Spearfish, SD, and seven surrounding communities in the Black Hills region of western South Dakota. The service is available to both residential and business customers.

"This shows Midco's commitment to technology and innovation in the Spearfish area," said Midco President and CEO Pat McAdaragh.

Midco's first DOCSIS 3.1 deployment was in Fargo, ND, in March, followed by other deployments in the Dakotas and Minnesota, most recently in and around Mitchell, SD. Early deployments have used CCAP gear from Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) and modems from ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) and Hitron Technologies. Midco plans to add other vendors' DOCSIS 3.1 modems as they become available.

Midco says its Xstream Gig is now available to more than 70% of its customers. The company's goal is to reach 80% of its footprint by year's end.
