AWS Elemental and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have supplied video processing, distribution, and storage technology to Mexican broadcast network Multimedios Televisión to power the network's online video content. Part of Grupo Multimedios, Multimedios Televisión will use the new capabilities to move more of its video workflow into the cloud.
A terrestrial TV network with eight local affiliates across northern Mexico, Multimedios initially deployed AWS Elemental Live encoding software for real-time video and audio encoding of its broadcast signals for four live multiscreen streams in 2015. The recent agreement expands Multimedios' AWS deployment with additional AWS Elemental cloud services to its online video processing and publishing workflow.
In the Multimedios workflow, AWS Elemental on-premises platforms encode signals from live broadcast playout into RTMP streams for real-time video processing in the cloud. Cloud-based AWS Elemental Live instances perform real-time encoding of three live video streams in adaptive bitrate formats. AWS Elemental Delta provides just-in-time packaging (JITP) for video-on-demand (VoD), time-shift and catch-up viewing services for the Amazon CloudFront content delivery network (CDN) to enable cloud-based distribution of live streams to Multimedios' online platforms. And the broadcaster uses Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for on-demand, file-based cloud storage for program highlights and VoD content.
"When we adopted AWS Elemental encoding software in the cloud, it transformed our workflow," said Rommel Valencia, digital media operations manager for Multimedios. "Considering the full set of video processing and distribution services available from AWS and AWS Elemental, it made sense to explore the value we could achieve with an end-to-end, cloud-driven workflow."
Multimedios provides local channels; produces and broadcasts original news, entertainment, sports and public affairs programming; and is available nationwide via paid satellite and cable services. It supports affiliates in the U.S. and Canada.
