Grande Communications has expanded its gigabit Internet service to home and business subscribers in Corpus Christi, TX. The service is based on DOCSIS 3.1 and features no mandatory contracts or bandwidth usage caps. Residential pricing starts at $69.99 a month and includes wireless home networking at no extra cost.

"We continue to enhance broadband, entertainment and communications solutions that focus on providing the best customer experience," said Matt Rohre, senior vice president of operations and general manager for Grande. "This expansion in Corpus Christi delivers on our commitment to expand 1 gigabit Internet service throughout all our Texas markets. With the growing need for data bandwidth, Grande continues to remain at the forefront of innovation by offering customers the fastest Internet speeds."

Grande first deployed 1 Gbps Internet service based on fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) in 2014, and the company has been expanding gigabit availability throughout its service areas, lately via DOCSIS 3.1. Grande began deploying DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit in April in Dallas, Midland, Odessa, Austin and San Marcos. The company plans to bring gigabit to the rest of its markets later this year.

Grande, together with RCN, was purchased by TPG Capital in February, and Wave Broadband joined the combined company in May. All three offer gigabit services and have plans to expand them. Wave and Grande have mostly used FTTH, while RCN has tended to focus on DOCSIS 3.1.
