Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN) has expanded its gigabit Internet service to residents and small businesses in the north Georgia communities of Blairsville, Byron, Clarkesville, Cleveland, Colbert, Dahlonega, Dawsonville, Haddock, Jasper, Jeffersonville, Lakeland, Milledgeville, Noble, Pendergrass and Springfield.
"We're extremely proud to share that Georgia represents one of the first five states in the Windstream footprint to have access to our ultra-fast 1-Gig internet service," said Jarrod Berkshire, president of operations for Windstream in Georgia. "Many of the investments and infrastructure upgrades we set in motion years ago are now allowing us to roll out faster and more reliable internet speeds across North Georgia. While 1-Gig represents a significant milestone, we continue to look for areas where we can bring faster speeds and improved experiences to our customers in the area."
Windstream's 1 Gbps service is currently available in Lincoln, NE; Lexington, KY; Sugar Land, TX, and seven North Carolina communities.
The gigabit expansion is part of a larger Windstream initiative to bring technology upgrades to its north Georgia customers. In late May, the company completed a cable upgrade plan in the north Georgia community of Blairsville in Union County, providing access to up to 100 Mbps Internet speeds to more than 6,000 households.
