Simplestream has upgraded its VOD in a Box technology with download for offline viewing and Chromecast integration across its mobile services, including iOS and Android.

Simplestream now provides Chromecast receiver apps, the ability to adjust download bitrates and custom retention periods, and video and audio download support on mobile- and tablet-supported OTT services.

"TV is more immersive, interactive and personalized than ever before, so it's imperative to make sure our customers are equipped with the best tools and features to provide enhanced viewing experiences for their subscribers," said Lewis Arthur, chief product officer, Simplestream. "The growth of mobile video is an exciting opportunity for our industry, driving increased investment and fueling consumption. Offline viewing capability and Chromecast integration are valuable differentiators to any OTT service, and help content owners and service providers remain competitive."

"Untethered access enables our customers to give their viewers more control over their entertainment experience by connecting seamlessly with their favorite content, making these services more relevant and accessible," said Arthur. "These are game-changing capabilities that have been months in the making, so I'm thrilled that they are now live and ready to be put to great use by our customers - and their viewers."
