GMIT GmbH, a subsidiary of Munich-based technology group Rohde & Schwarz, has acquired the technology of Motama GmbH. The acquisition is intended to expand GMIT's product portfolio for transmission of audio and video content in IP networks and expertise in the live online content distribution market.
Headquartered in Saarbruecken, Motama works in professional transmission via unmanaged IP networks. The company's RelayCaster protocol is designed to minimize packet losses to enable the quality of service (QoS) conditions required for interruption-free transmission.
Hannes Strobel, vice president of monitoring and headend at Rohde & Schwarz and managing director of GMIT, said: "RelayCaster technology represents a major expansion of our Broadcast and Media Division's current portfolio in the field of interruption-free transmission and will impact future applications. RelayCaster gives us the benefits of a fully established product in a highly promising market."
RelayCaster and other Motama products are now available from GMIT as independent product solutions. Motama technology will be integrated into the Rohde & Schwarz broadcast and media portfolio to be used for new software solutions and cloud environments. Motama products and technology will remain available through existing sales partners and also be integrated into the Rohde & Schwarz product portfolio for worldwide marketing via the Rohde & Schwarz sales network. GMIT will continue to support Motama's existing customers and partners.
Dr. Marco Lohse, who established the Motama in 2005, will retain primary responsibility for growth and development of the product line as the director of R&D IP Gateways at GMIT, a position he will assume effective June 1.
