T-Networks Inc. today announced its entry into the opto-electronics modulator market. T-Networks' recently captured InP-based modulator design wins with established optical equipment manufacturers in key market segments, including 10-Gbit/sec DWDM, 10-Gbit/sec long-reach, and 40-Gbit/sec 2km applications. According to the company, these design wins will result in volume product shipments and revenue generation by the third quarter of this year.

"As the telecom market recovers, 10-Gbit/sec products will dominate the optical components market in the next three to four years, with 40-Gbit/sec solutions emerging as the next wave," contends Vladimir Kozlov, senior analyst at RHK Inc. "We estimate that 10-Gbit/sec optical components market will grow from $0.5 billion in 2001 to more than $1.2 billion in 2005. T-Networks has successfully identified these markets and built a product set and roadmap that are positioned to capitalize on the immediate opportunity and long-term growth potential that exists here," he adds.

By exploiting the high-performance qualities of InP, T-Networks' integrated solutions approach to product development enables the company to introduce performance efficiencies and characteristics superior to those available with traditional lithium niobate-based products, say company representatives. T-Networks claims its patented approach integrates the functionality of multiple optical components into one InP-based platform, reducing cost and power consumption in a footprint nearly one-tenth the size of typical discrete solutions and lithium niobate-based products.
