Mitsui & Co., distributor of networking equipment, and Atoga Systems Inc., vendor of tunable metro DWDM systems, have entered into a strategic relationship agreement under which Mitsui & Co. will bring Atoga's Optical Application Router (OAR) family of metro DWDM platforms to market in Japan.

"Atoga's metro Optical Application Routers are a key part of Mitsui's product offering as we deliver the most technologically advanced optical networking equipment to major carriers in Japan," claims Yoshiyuki Izawa, chief operating officer of the Information Business Unit at Mitsui. "Atoga's innovative use of tunable DWDM coupled with service flexibility allows our customers to deploy new services quickly and in a cost-effective manner. The agreement expands Mitsui's portfolio of networking products and provides Atoga with an established, highly respected partner for rapidly entering the growing metro networking market in Japan.

In addition to the reseller agreement, Mitsui & Co. also has made a strategic investment in Atoga, further strengthening the long-term mutual commitment between the two companies.

"We are pleased to have a reputable partner such as Mitsui & Co. on our side as we expand our operations to Asia," contends Cuneyt Ozveren, president and chief operating officer of Atoga Systems. "Japan is a very important market for us as we continue to establish our product line and bring our active product trials in the U.S, Japan, and other international markets to fruition."
