June 11, 2002--Ciena (Linthicum, MD) and Equipe Communications (Acton, MA) today announced a worldwide reseller agreement allowing Ciena to market, sell, and support the Equipe 3200 (E3200) ATM/MPLS multiservice core switch into tier-one service provider accounts.

Under the agreement Ciena is to furnish first level 7x24 technical support for the Equipe 3200 via its worldwide network of technical assistance centers.

"Our relationship with Equipe gives us the ability to offer both TDM- and ATM-based core data solutions that are complementary to our transport layer product portfolio," said Michael O. McCarthy, senior vice president, worldwide sales and support for Ciena.

The E3200 is a multiservice core switch capable of transitioning large-scale service providers from ATM to MPLS while leveraging emerging optical technologies. The E3200 also provides carriers with a SONET/SDH optical crossconnect in a modular, distributed architecture that scales to 320 Gbits/sec. The system architecture is built using Equipe's Evail software architecture. For more information, visit www.equipecom.com
