October 16, 2002--Opto Speed, developer and manufacturer of optoelectronic modules for communications, test and measurement, medical and defense markets, announced today the beginning of a distribution agreement with EL-GEV Electronics Ltd., an Israeli distributor of electronic and optoelectronic components and subassemblies.

EL-GEV will distribute Opto Speed's family of high-speed lasers, photodetectors, monolithically integrated PIN/TIA/Postamp optical front-ends, semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs), and superluminescent light emitting diodes (SLEDs), regionally, through its sales and application support organization.

"EL-GEV's profound technical and application knowledge provides customers in regional industrial, military, and aerospace markets with easy access to our product families," contends Jean Brunol, chief executive officer of Opto Speed. "We are confident that the Opto Speed / EL-GEV distribution agreement will result in high-value added services and products that customers will appreciate."

Opto Speed's technology offers transceiver manufacturers a complementary set of 2.5-Gbit/sec, 10-Gbit/sec and 40-Gbit/sec photodetectors, Fabry Perot and DFB lasers at both 1300-nm and 1550-nm wavelengths as well as 1300-nm and 1550-nm SOAs. Opto Speed also designs and manufactures high power, high bandwidth Superluminescent LEDs for applications in communications as well as the medical, lighting, and test and measurement sectors. Finally, Opto Speed has developed an Optical Front End, which combines a 40-Gbit/sec photodiode with electronic transimpedance and postamplifiers with differential output monolithically integrated on a single InP chip. The integrated Optical Front End is currently being tested by several potential customers.
