19 August 19 2003 Morrisville, NC Lightwave -- LVL7 Systems announced that its FASTPATH networking software is powering the GSM7324 24-Port Gigabit Switch, the first Layer 3 gigabit switch from NETGEAR, Inc.

NETGEAR's GSM7324 features the FASTPATH 2340 Managed Layer 2/3/4 product, which includes switching, routing, quality of service (QoS) and management modules. Utilizing FASTPATH, NETGEAR's first Layer 3 switch offers a browser-based configuration interface and incorporates such software-intensive functions as RIP I and RIP II, OSPF2, VRRP (router redundancy), broadcast storm protection, VLAN support, 802.1S Multiple Spanning Tree, and link aggregation. The QoS functionality includes DiffServ, access control lists, and rate-limiting functionality. The switch also provides support for SNMP and an intuitive Command Line Interface (CLI).

"Using the FASTPATH software solution we shrank our development schedule, enabling a quicker time-to-market for our high-performance, Layer 3 gigabit switch," said Peter Newton, NETGEAR product line manager for switches. Use of the software enabled NETGEAR to ship for revenue in less than 90 days, according to Kishore Jotwani, vice president of marketing at LVL7.
