6 November 2003 Calabasas Hills, CA Lightwave -- Lynx Photonic Networks) announced today that Digital Technology Inc. (DTI) and MCC Sales have signed on as its first channel partners for the new Lynx LightLEADER family of plug-and-play photonic switches. A range of applications makes LightLEADER ideal for a broad-based network of distributors, resellers, and manufacturer's representatives and was instrumental in DTI and MCC Sales embracing the product line.

Built around Lynx's patented intelligent optical switch fabrics, LightLEADER is a compact all-optical communications system targeted at network carriers, test laboratories, manufacturers, enterprises, and government agencies for applications such as protection switching, high-availability storage area networks, and test equipment monitoring.

"Accordingly, our channel program will be structured by vertical markets as well as geographically," asserts Per Hultin, Lynx's director of sales. "DTI and MCC Sales, for example, are both very strong in the test equipment area, and they serve different territories. We're now working to identify potential channel partners of equally high caliber to represent LightLEADER in the U.S. and internationally."

DTI, headquartered in Birmingham, AL, has been representing test equipment manufacturers in Southeastern states since 1988 to customers that include Bell operating companies, independent telephone companies, and competitive access providers.

Westlake Village, CA-based MCC Sales, affiliated with Ward Davis Communications, is a manufacturer's rep with customers primarily in Southern California, including numerous fiber-optic OEMs and military/aerospace companies.

"The Lynx LightLEADER is an integral subsystem component that hadn't previously existed," explains Tim McGrath, president of MCC Sales. "We consider it an enabling technology that will greatly complement our product offerings by integrating into a broad range of test and automation applications."

LightLEADER combines the capabilities of planar lightwave circuit (PLC) technology with advanced control plane software, which allows it to multicast an input signal to any combination of output ports at any required ratio between the output powers--without using external attenuation. LightLEADER has no moving parts; is data-rate and format independent; comes with an intuitive graphical user interface, hosted locally on a PC or remotely via an Ethernet connection; and can be tailored to manage most port-to-port connectivity requirements, including broadcasting, distance-tuned multicasting, and dynamic wavelength switching.

"We'll be integrating the new Lynx product into our high-end network testing systems to make our customers' labs more flexible and productive," reports Charles Daniels, president of DTI. "We had tried several other solutions over the years, but until LightLEADER we never found one that was both cost-effective and reliable."
