10 September 2003 Cirencester, UK -- Alcatel has announced the signature of a distribution agreement with Zycko, a distributor of professional services and storage solutions to foster the delivery of optical storage area networking (SAN) equipment in the UK.

The agreement enables Alcatel to expand its market penetration by finding specialised channel partners to local markets, as well as enter new business segments, making Zycko a key distributor for Alcatel's SAN optical solutions.

Alcatel's metro DWDM and CWDM systems - the Alcatel 1696 Metro Span family and 1692 Metro Span Edge - will provide a versatile platform to support SAN applications efficiently and reliably. These managed solutions offer the capacity needed to meet the huge bandwidth demands of enterprises' storage requirements.

Mark Crocker, Marketing Director at Zycko, said, "Our distribution agreement with Alcatel completes our solutions aggregation portfolio enabling us to offer end-to-end SAN solutions in addition to our first-class support to ease SAN purchasing and installation."

"Storage area networking offers the most efficient solution to the growing challenge for reliable, resilient and accessible storage of data, which is today a pressing concern for all businesses," said Charles Matthews, CEO of Alcatel in the UK. "We chose Zycko to expand our reach into the enterprise market because of their outstanding track record and reputation. "
