26 June 2003 Stockholm Lightwave -- Lumentis, provider of optical transport solutions, has announced the successful deployment of its all-in-one CWDM, DWDM, and SONET/SDH Mentis platform by Swedish Internet and telecom operator IP-Only.

IP-Only has a 2,200-km fiber network which comprises a ring linking Stockholm-Oslo-Gothenburg-Malmö-Stockholm with connections along the way and of double sea cable connections to Helsinki. IP-Only now launches high-capacity services over CWDM and DWDM by implementing the Lumentis all-in-one platform in a cost-effective build-out of metropolitan networks in six different locations, explain company representatives.

Throughout their Nordic network, IP-Only has taken full advantage of Lumentis ability to offer integrated framing of multiple Gigabit Ethernet-signals into SDH/SONET wavelengths in order to provide long-distance data connectivity.

"This means a totally new way for us to distribute capacity from our existing national DWDM rings to local city networks throughout Sweden," reports Svante Jurnell, chief executive officer of IP-Only.

The Mentis all-in-one transport system shares the same chassis, fiber pair, and network management platform, which reduces operational costs, removes overhead costs, and simplifies network growth plans. Carriers and mobile and network operators don't have to choose between using CWDM or DWDM or pay extra for the full capabilities as Lumentis offers a smooth migration path for each solution with one system, says Anders Lundberg, chief executive officer of Lumentis.

"Our all-in-one transport platform allows IP-Only to incrementally launch new connections in their network with the lowest cost of ownership and with full flexibility for future growth," he asserts. "We are excited to work with IP-Only and to enable high-capacity end user services."
