16 June 2003 Espoo, Finland and Helsinki Lightwave--TeliaSonera Finland and Tellabs are working together to develop a next-generation platform that combines the flexibility, scalability, and cost efficiency of future networking with the reliability and security of traditional solutions. This in-depth cooperation ensures that the platform's architecture is optimized to meet the needs of advanced service providers such as TeliaSonera Finland, including support for next-generation services such as virtual private networks, rapid provisioning of new services, improved operational efficiency, and a long lifecycle.

"We are committed to providing our customers with high quality, cost-efficient services, and Tellabs shares this vision," says Marko Alatalo, director at TeliaSonera Finland. "By working closely with a partner who has many years of expertise in providing carrier-class products, we can make the most of the possibilities that new technologies can offer to both our corporate and consumer customers."

In the 1990s both Telia and Sonera, which merged in December 2002 to form TeliaSonera, contributed to the development of the Tellabs 8100 managed access solution. The Tellabs 8100 system is used in TeliaSonera's FastNet and DataNet services.
