29 April 2003 San Diego, CA Lightwave--The United States Patent Office has advised Lightwave Solutions that the company was awarded patent number 6,538,789 for their approach to optical linearization for optical network transmissions.

The optical linearization technology breakthrough is the heart of the company's third-generation transmitter for the forward path in hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) networks. It raises the bar in terms of cost and performance for optical transmitters as cable operators seek to lower their capital expenditures while delivering new bandwidth intensive services including video on demand, voice over IP, high-speed internet access, and free-on-demand services. The optical linearizer enables a transmitter designed with lower power consumption and a smaller form factor than what is available on the market today, according to the company.
