15 May 2003 Dallas, TX Lightwave -- United Telesystems Inc. (UTI), independent competitive communications provider and broadband network consultant, will deploy the Alcatel 7340 Fiber-to-the-User (FTTU) solution to expand its broadband network, which offers video and data services to residential and commercial customers in the City of Acworth and Cobb County, GA.

The Alcatel solution enables UTI to enhance its current video and data offerings by delivering a trio of services: voice, video, and expanded high-speed data services using fiber-optic cable all the way to the user's premises. Alcatel's 7340 FTTU platform, based on a fully standards-compliant technology, delivers Internet access at much higher speeds than traditional dial-up modems, say company representatives. Alcatel's ability to deliver advanced high bandwidth services, coupled with technology provided by Scientific Atlanta, will deliver new sophisticated content such as online gaming, music downloads, video-on-demand, and high-definition TV.

United Telesystems specializes in developing new start-up competitive broadband systems. The company has supported the development of more than 15 of these systems over the past seven years and is working closely with Alcatel and Scientific Atlanta to apply this experience to its network in Georgia. The initial rollout of the project will serve more than 1,000 residential and business customers.
