Universe2U (OTC BB:UTOU) announced a partnership with the City of Vaughan to provide engineering and infrastructure development of a fiber optic network to create a high-speed, high-capacity virtual private network for government agencies and commercial enterprises in this region of the Greater Toronto Area.
The partnership is expected to result in speedier and superior connectivity between government information services and the public, and is expected to stimulate investment and tourism via e-applications due to increased bandwidth.
Kim Allen, CEO of Universe2U said that the company initially completed the network design to facilitate Vaughan's participation in Connect Ontario, a provincial government initiative. The creation of a "SmartCommunity" in Vaughan was a step to ensure that Ontario remains "at the forefront of the knowledge economy."
Frank Miele, Commissioner of Economic and Technology Development, City of Vaughan, said that becoming a SmartCommunity will act as a catalyst to well-planned growth. "We want to attract and keep jobs in Vaughan and provide better municipal services."
According to Allen, Universe2U, together with Vaughan, will function as a provider for "one-stop-shopping" for planning, operations infrastructure development, construction, marketing assistance and creative financing of the project. "This initiative is in line with our corporate strategy to ultimately provide fully integrated service across Canada and the United States, through SmartCommunities, SmartLinks, or SmartBuildings."
