Optical networking solutions provider ADVA Optical today announced the successful deployment of its Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 500 to support BellSouth's point-to-point Gigabit Ethernet service.
Gigabit Ethernet is an extension of BellSouth's existing, fiber-based Native Mode LAN Interconnection (NMLI) solution. By further tapping the full range of fiber optic capabilities, BellSouth's GigE solution provides a cost-effective migration path that paves the way to the next generation of high-speed data applications, claims the company. This allows companies to build a completely meshed, fiber-based NMLI and GigE network solution.
"ADVA's win at BellSouth is impressive because of the truly demanding network requirements of an RBOC," says Mark Lutkowitz, vice president of Optical Networking Research at Communications Industry Researchers. "It is another demonstration of ADVA's competitive strength of meeting the stringent cost points in the enterprise space."
