Tropic Networks Inc., a company developing Optical Packet Networking systems to eliminate the constraints of delivering high bandwidth IP and Ethernet-based services in metropolitan area networks (MANs), announced it has secured $10 million in capital financing. The capital financing follows Tropic's second venture capital round of $60 million raised earlier this year. Silicon Valley Bank, GATX/MM Venture Finance Partnership and Transamerica Commercial Finance Corporation provided the financing and join Tropic's list of premier investors.

Tropic Networks will use this money for capital expenditures aimed at supporting the Company's continued product development initiatives and early customer acquisitions. Tropic's Optical Packet Networking (OPN) systems bring new levels of dynamic control and scalability to networks by combining data services with intelligent optical transport in a single, carrier class package. Tropic's OPN model enables carriers to enhance their revenue opportunity by extending the life of existing networks and services while adding compelling new IP, Ethernet and wavelength services.
