CloudShield creates platform for optical speed network applications

June 25, 2001
June 25, 2001--CloudShield Technologies, Inc. introduced a new packet processing technology that allows network applications to run at optical speed for the first time.

CloudShield Technologies, Inc. introduced a new packet processing technology that allows network applications to run at optical speed for the first time. Founded in early 2000, CloudShield has been developing its technology for more than a year and working closely with customers to define features for its first packet processor product. The company expects general product availability in the fourth quarter of this year.

According to CloudShield, no other company or product to date has demonstrated the ability to inspect, manage and process 100 percent of all network traffic at OC-48 speed. Until now, network providers have been unable to deliver new Internet Protocol services over fiber without significantly degrading the performance of their networks. By combining the latest in new network processing chip technologies, network co-processors, intelligent micro-code, and a proprietary patent-pending architecture and design, CloudShield has created a 10 gigabit per second, integrated hardware and software system that runs applications without degrading network performance. This technology breakthrough has enabled CloudShield to pioneer a new category of optical networking equipment called Packet Processors.

CloudShield's packet processor platform is targeted specifically at Tier 1 carriers and large network hosting providers who are seeking to deploy new services over fiber. The company has three customer beta agreements in place.
