EPFL Spin-off attracts financing from pan-European VC Index Ventures

Nov. 30, 2001--Index Ventures has announced the funding of Geneva, Switzerland-based BeamExpress, a spin-off from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), dedicated to developing advanced optical networking components.

Index Ventures has announced the funding of Geneva, Switzerland-based BeamExpress, a spin-off from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), dedicated to developing advanced optical networking components.

BeamExpress develops next-generation components for optical networks with a specific focus on the growing metro and access markets. Its products are based on proprietary technology developed over several years at the EPFL.

The startup was founded by a team of EPFL scientists, led by Professor Eli Kapon, Professor in EPFL's department of Physics, who will take the role of Chief Scientist. The EPFL will collaborate with the company on future R&D projects.
