TeraBurst partners with Syntelco to extend market reach for optical switches

July 3, 2001
July 3, 2001--TeraBurst Networks, Inc. announced an agreement with Synergy Telecommunications Corporation to resell TeraBurst's optical core switches, the Optical Management System (OMS) 2100 and OMS 2200.

TeraBurst Networks, Inc., a developer of carrier-grade optical core switching and transmission systems, announced an agreement with Synergy Telecommunications Corporation (Syntelco), a Virginia-based reseller of networking and broadband connectivity solutions for metropolitan area networks, government organizations and enterprises. Under the terms of the agreement, Syntelco will resell TeraBurst's optical core switches, the Optical Management System (OMS) 2100 and OMS 2200. TeraBurst's OMS systems complement Syntelco's product line of free-space optics-based connectivity solutions for the optical last mile. Both products have also been tested for interoperability and were in a live demonstration at this year's SuperComm in Atlanta.

TeraBurst's optical core switches are based on a patent-pending and reliable millimeter-wave technology that combines the features of the opaque (OEO; optical-electrical-optical or digital) and transparent (OOO; all-optical or photonic) switching technologies. The OMS 2200, which switches wavelengths at line rates from OC-3 to OC-192, offers system capacity of up to 640 Gbps in a compact half-rack footprint. The OMS 2100 is a smaller member of the Optical Management System family with a capacity of 200 Gbps in a compact one-third rack footprint.

Syntelco's last mile connectivity solutions use laser-based free space optics, have capacities up to 1.25 Gbps and require no FCC licensing. Additionally, Syntelco's network engineering and design expertise, coupled with TeraBurst's optical management systems for wavelength switching and transmission will enable service providers to efficiently manage current DWDM capacity while cost-effectively providing high-speed access in metropolitan area, government and enterprise networks.
