VPI Virtual Photonics, a developer of professional tools and productivity systems for next generation products and networks, signed a research and development agreement with the Optical Internet Research Center (OIRC) at the Information and Communication University (ICU).

OIRC develops all optical networks in Korea, with the deployment of leased wavelength IP interconnections in an IP/WDM test bed to explore the architectural evolution of the optical packet Internet.

The agreement covers VPI optical design and planning software to support research undertaken by 17 professors and 50 graduate students at the ICU and many industrial research laboratories. Actions include joint pursuit of collaborative research projects and the establishment of a regional VPI software users' group.

About VPI:

VPI Virtual Photonics makes design and planning tools and productivity systems for access providers, network operators, system integrators and manufacturers of WDM transmission systems and optical components.

About OIRC:

OIRC is a Research Centre of Excellence implemented by Korea's Science and Engineering Foundation for 2000-2009. The Centre aims to advance research and education on optical packet Internet. It is based at the Information and Communication University (ICU).
