Tellium, a provider of intelligent optical switches, announced the opening of its intelligent optical mesh networking technical training facility for customers, their contractors, and Tellium employees.

The center, adjacent to the advanced optics labs in Tellium's new West Long Branch, N.J., facility, offers Tellium's customers hands-on training using Tellium's Aurora Optical Switches. At the center, students will also learn how to use Tellium's StarNet Software Suite to create, optimize, run, control and provision optical networks.

The courses offered include classes in installation, testing, network operation, remote site maintenance and network management. Additionally, Tellium plans to add courses on network provisioning and on the use of Tellium's StarNet Design Tools software, which includes the StarNet Planner and StarNet Modeler. Tellium limits its class sizes to eight students to allow for the most hands-on training possible.

Also, Tellium has begun an on-site customer-training program, where the courses are held at customer or contractor locations on a worldwide basis. In all courses, Tellium students spend more than 50 percent of class time in hands-on training.
