Sensormatic Electronics Corporation (NYSE:SRM), a provider of electronic security solutions to a wide range of businesses, announced it has acquired the assets of BEC Technologies, Inc., of Orlando, Florida. BEC Technologies designs, manufactures and markets a combination of hardware and software to provide fiber optic networks for the transmission of audio, video and data signals over long distances.
With this acquisition, Sensormatic will add to its customer base major theme parks including Universal Studios Theme Park and Great America Theme Park in Santa Clara; airports, including San Francisco International, Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., and O'Hare International Airport in Chicago; and sports stadiums including Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Giants Stadium at the Meadowlands, Toronto Sky Dome, and Roland Garros Tennis stadium in Paris.
BEC's primary technology and future products based on its architecture will provide an integrated networking component to Sensormatic's business security solutions where multimedia content delivery is required. Sensormatic's security cameras, digital video storage devices, access control systems and electronic tagging systems may all be interconnected using BEC's technologies.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. BEC's founder, Robert Proctor, and the BEC staff will join Sensormatic's Video Systems Division.
