Enablence: They love our PLCs

Feb. 18, 2011
Enablence Technologies, Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ENA) says its planar lightwave circuit (PLC) custom design and fabrication services have experienced nearly 100 percent revenue growth year-over-year since 2008.

Enablence Technologies, Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ENA) says its planar lightwave circuit (PLC) custom design and fabrication services have experienced nearly 100 percent revenue growth year-over-year since 2008. In 2010, the company says it closed several multi-million dollar PLC contracts globally, including customers within the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, telecommunications system vendors, as well as the instrumentation and aerospace industries.

PLCs can be used in a variety of applications. They are particularly popular in passive optical network (PON) systems.

"As subscriber demand for broadband services continues to explode, communications systems developers must build high-speed, high-capacity communications systems for access, metro, and long-haul networks that manage traffic more effectively at a lower cost. Enablence has achieved nearly 50 percent of its overall revenue growth due to increased demand for PLC platforms that enable our customer base to rein in capital and operating expenses through reduced cost, compact size, and efficient power usage," said Jacob Sun, president of Enablence Optical Components and Subsystems Division.

In non-telecom markets such as military, industrial and aerospace applications, complex, micro-optics assemblies can be replaced with a single, cost-effective, compact photonic integrated circuit (PIC), Sun adds.
