March 12, 2004 London -- Marconi Corp. plc has signed a reseller agreement with CWDM equipment vendor RBN Inc. The five-year agreement provides Marconi with the GigaEdge 8200 CWDM platform, which will become part of Marconi's Multiservice Metro-Edge portfolio available to operators worldwide.
RBN's CWDM products have already been deployed by "tier one" carriers including PCCW. The GigaEdge 8200 is a carrier-class, reconfigurable CWDM optical transport platform that Marconi believes will offer it significant differentiation from its competitors in terms of small size, simplicity, and flexibility.
"By combining our optical network offerings with RBN's CWDM product, we're providing carriers with the ability to implement leading-edge technology that overcomes most of the cost issues associated with the provisioning of a broadband network, reducing the cost of service delivery," said Martin Harriman, chief marketing officer at Marconi. "CWDM is an appropriate solution for a recovering market defined by a need to have just enough capacity, just in time."
"This agreement is a significant global step for RBN," explained Jim Fultz, CEO and president of RBN. "Marconi's reach, both in sales and service, will make it possible for business customers throughout the world to have as much bandwidth as they need, when it is needed."
All aspects of the GigaEdge 8200, including full wavelength channel reconfiguration, can be managed by Marconi's ServiceOn network management solution.
