Telecommunications Resellers elects 1997-98 board

Members of the Telecommunications Resellers Association have elected a seven-member board of directors for 1997-98. Elected to the board for one-year terms are Thomas M. Coughlin, president, Vista Communications; Robert T. Hale Sr., chairman, Network Plus; Wallace M. Hammond, president and chief executive, PhoenixNetwork; J. Sherman Henderson, president and chief executive, UniDial Inc.; William G. Rodi, president, TelecomOne Inc.; Laura Scher, chief executive, Working Assets Long Distance; and C. Holland Taylor, chief executive, usa Global Link. All of the board members except Hammond have previously served on the board.

Scott G. Kipp has been put in charge of international sales for Baycom Optoelectronics Technologies in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Before joining Baycom, he was with Hughes Aircraft Co.`s Santa Barbara Research Center, where he completed the engineering rotation program.

Steven R. Bouchard has been named vice president--marketing for Continental Cablevision, the domestic cable unit of US West Media Group. A 17-year veteran at Continental, he is responsible for understanding customer needs and developing marketing strategies for the company`s video products. Bouchard has held a number of operations and marketing positions with Continental at both the field and corporate levels.

Wes Hanemayer has been appointed vice president of operations and engineering at Vyvx Inc., Tulsa, OK. He brings more than 20 years` experience in engineering management to Vyvx, where he is responsible for satellite, fiber, teleport, and interactive operations as well as syndication, quality assurance, and engineering. Previously, Hanemayer was vice president of distribution for Turner Network Sales.

After three and a half years as director of sales operations for Scientific Atlanta, Dave Johnson has rejoined Siecor Corp. in Hickory, NC, as director of new business development for the Strategic Planning and Business Development Group. Johnson`s previous position at Siecor was in sales and marketing in the cable-TV, utility, and competitive access provider marketplaces. He holds two international patents for work performed at Reliance Electric.

Colin J. Horton has been promoted to the new position of market manager--distribution products for c-cor Electronics Inc., State College, PA. He is responsible for overall marketing direction for AM and radio-frequency distribution product lines. Horton will remain at corporate headquarters. For the past two years, he served as business development manager. Daniel H. Gibson has joined c-cor as product manager--digital fiber. He is responsible for marketing digital fiber-optic products and investigating and implementing new applications of the company`s digital products. Most recently, Gibson was marketing manager for Network Approach Corp.

Whit Cotten has been appointed vice president of marketing at Broadband Communications Products Inc. (bcp), Melbourne, FL. He has been with the company since 1992 and was formerly vice president of marketing and sales. Richard Anders has been promoted to director of sales. He has been with the company for three years.

John E. Vaughan has been named executive vice president of Tellabs Inc., Lisle, IL, and president of Tellabs International Inc. Vaughan is responsible for development, manufacturing, marketing, and support activities for Tellabs` customers outside the United States and Canada. Most recently, he was corporate vice president of business unit development and strategy for Ameritech. Vaughan has more than 25 years` experience in communications and information technology, including 16 years in executive positions with major international organizations.

Jeffrey L. Cannon has been promoted to vice president and general manager of the domestic precision motion systems division at Newport Corp., Irvine, CA. He oversees domestic design, manufacturing, and marketing operations for high-precision positioning equipment and systems. Cannon joined the company as director of the Klinger Systems Group in 1995 and has held executive positions at the MikroPrecision Instruments subsidiary. Before joining Newport, he was senior marketing manager at Coherent Inc.

Donald Stevenson has been named chief financial officer at Utica, NY-based GN Nettest, Laser Precision Div. Before joining the company, he was vice president of finance at Rome Cable Corp. Previous employers include Arrow Electronics Canada Ltd. and Axion Electronics, London, and BW Industries of America.

David K. Lam has been appointed to the board of directors of Asante Technologies Inc. in San Jose, CA. Previously, he served as president and chief executive of Expert Edge Corp. and was chairman of Link Technologies. Lam is the founder of Lam Research, a high-technology company in the semiconductor equipment industry. Before founding Lam Research, he held positions at Texas Instruments, Xerox Corp., and Hewlett-Packard Co.

Under a management reorganization, Raymond E. Jaeger, chairman of the board of directors, has assumed the additional role of chief executive of SpecTran Corp. in Sturbridge, MA.

Krish Prabhu, executive vice president of Alcatel Telecom and member of the executive committee, has been named chief executive of Alcatel Network Systems Inc. He continues to be responsible for worldwide transmission, access, and submarine network activities of Alcatel Telecom. Prabhu will be based in Richardson, TX.

Gary D. Morgan has been named regional vice president--network systems of Lucent Technologies, in Denver, CO. Morgan comes to Lucent after nine years at Siemens, where most recently he was vice president, southern and western region. He is responsible for the sales and marketing teams that serve the telecommunications equipment and service needs for US West.

Kenneth W. Hovaldt has been named vice president of global sales at Norwood, MA-based Telco Systems Inc. He has more than 20 years` experience in the telecommunications industry, including positions at Fujitsu Network Switching of America, dsc Communications, itt Telecom, and Siemens.

Michael J. Miller has been selected as the president and chief executive of Network Communications Corp., Bloomington, MN. Previously, he was president and chief executive of Telident Inc.

John Major, senior vice president and assistant chief corporate staff officer of Motorola Inc., has been named to the newly created post of co-vice-chair of the Electronic Industries Association, in Arlington, VA. He will serve with the current vice-chair, Gil Amelio, chairman and chief executive of Apple Computer Inc. Major also serves on the board of directors of the Telecommunications Industry Association.

Charles F. Cleary has been appointed vice president and general manager of the 525-mile fiber-optic network of Teleport Communications Group Inc. (tcg), Philadelphia, PA. Previously, he was vice president of the company`s National Markets Group, which focuses on the sale and marketing of services to the telecommunications community. Former employers include Metromedia Communications, Telus Communications Inc., and itt.

Jim Pooladdej has been named vice president, Aberdeen Products Div., of apa Optics Inc., in South Dakota. Previously, he was associated with ciena Corp., Laser Diode Inc., Alcatel/Rockwell Transmission System Div., and Nortel/stc.

Neil Ransom has joined Alcatel Network Systems, Raleigh, NC, as vice president and general manager--access and network management business lines for Canada and the United States. He is responsible for product marketing, product line management, research and development, sales coordination, and order fulfillment for a product group that includes the Alcatel asymmetrical digital subscriber line end-to-end system and the network-level management system. Ransom has more than 24 years` experience in applied research, development, and deployment of advanced telecommunications products. Most recently, he worked at BellSouth.

Ron Sciepko has been named marketing communications manager for reltec Corp.`s reltec Services Business Unit in North Ridgeville, OH. Tracy Schumann has been appointed marketing communications specialist for reltec Power Products in Lorain, OH. Sciepko spent four years with Picker International, where he was responsible for sales and marketing. Schumann previously served as public relations account executive for Martiny & Co., a marketing communications agency.

Joe Berthold has joined ciena Corp., Linthicum, MD, as chief--network architecture. Previously, he worked at Bell Communications Research, where his most recent assignment was as executive director and manager of the optical networking program. Berthold was also chairman of the Technical Management Committee of the Multiwavelength Optical Networking consortium, a four-year program aimed at bringing optical networking to the commercial viability stage.

Kerry Pennington has been named internal sales coordinator for optical-fiber products at Blacksburg, VA-based Litton Security Systems. He will advise end-users, dealers, and manufacturer representatives about fiber-optic communications equipment used to transmit voice, video, and data signals.

gst Telecommunications Inc., Vancouver, WA, has appointed Joseph A. Basile, Jr., as president and chief operating officer, and Daniel G. Moffat as senior vice president and chief marketing officer. Previously chief operating officer for Cable & Wireless Inc., Basile has held management positions with Telesphere Communications, National Telephone Service, mci, and Pac Tel. Moffat has more than 18 years` experience in telecommunications with companies such as Pacific Telecom, U.S. Intelco Networks, ibm/rolm, US West, and Pacific Telephone.

Vincent Costello has been named president at Frazer, PA-based Bell Atlantic Network Integration Inc., a subsidiary of Bell Atlantic Corp. He has more than 15 years` experience in telecommunications, most recently at nynex.
