DASAN Network Solutions, a subsidiary company of DASAN Networks, has signed a memorandum of understanding with telecom services provider Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Ltd. (APSFL) to advance fiber-optic network expansion in India's Andhra Pradesh state. The agreement includes the creation of a joint venture between the two parties that will see the establishment of a network equipment production facility in Andhra Pradesh.

The fiber-optic network expansion comes in the context of the national government's "Digital India" initiative, which will see the Indian Government invest $18 billion through 2019 to supply internet access nationwide. Andhra Pradesh has become a hotbed of bandwidth demand, having shown double-digit growth for four consecutive years, according to DASAN.

APSFL plans to raise the current 2% of Internet penetration rate among AP state's 60 million people to 30%. It also plans to increase the current 2 Mbps internet speed up to 10 Mbps.

"Today, India is considered as the land of opportunity as it became an arena for competition among global IT companies. Especially, the government-led infrastructure business is evaluated as the basis of economic growth in India. From our network infrastructure cooperation with AP state, we will actively drive our infrastructure business for ultra-fast Internet in India," said Daniel Won, president of the Global Business Division of DASAN Network Solutions.

DASAN Network Solutions has been active in India since 2009, when it began to provide fiber to the home (FTTH) equipment to state-owned telecom service provider BSNL. The company established an R&D center in Bangalore in 2011.
