May 21, 2001--Quantum Bridge Communications, Inc., a developer of optical access networking solutions, announced the next phase of the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance partner program.

Quantum Bridge Communications, Inc., a developer of optical access networking solutions, announced the next phase of the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance partner program. Through strategic partnerships with developers of free-space optics systems, Quantum Bridge enables service providers to combine the advantages of free-space optical technology with Quantum Bridge's optical access portfolio.

New members of the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance include AirFiber and LightPointe, known for the design and manufacturing of carrier-class free-space optics systems. Participation in the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance involves successful interoperability testing and network management integration between partner solutions and the Quantum Bridge Optical Access System.

When combined with Quantum Bridge's optical access networking solutions, free-space optical technology allows service providers to take advantage of revenue-focused applications by speeding deployment, overcoming geographical obstacles, and enabling redundancy in the access network. By serving as a high-capacity WAN uplink to remote optical systems, free-space optics systems provide time-to-market advantages and reduce opportunity costs by quickly bridging the gap between fiber-rich environments and a carrier's Point of Presence (POP). This allows service providers to uncover new revenue opportunities by rapidly bringing voice and data services to geographically dispersed businesses and Multi-Tenant Units (MTUs). The combination of Quantum Bridge's optical access networking solutions with free-space optics systems also enables diverse routing and disaster recovery for low-cost network protection, allowing carriers to deploy a survivable infrastructure that prevents downtime and ensures that Service-Level Agreements (SLAs) are met.

About the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance

The Quantum Bridge Access Alliance unites service delivery devices with Quantum Bridge's optical products to create access solutions for telecommunications carriers. Through solutions interoperability, network management integration, and co-marketing activities with its members, the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance provides a broad choice in end-customer services via high-bandwidth optical connections.

In August 2000, Quantum Bridge launched the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance by forging partnerships with IAD vendors and, in October 2000, the company extended the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance to include developers of MTU-located access devices. Quantum Bridge plans to continue increasing the scale and scope of the Quantum Bridge Access Alliance to give service providers a wide range of value-added optical access networking solutions.
