April 20, 2006 Hilversum, The Netherlands -- Lucent Technologies has been selected by KPN to supply network equipment, software, and services to support the roll-out of Ethernet-based services to KPN's enterprise customers in The Netherlands. The equipment for the deployment is being supplied by World Wide Packets under a newly established global reseller agreement with Lucent for business and residential FTTP customer premises equipment (CPE) platforms.
Under the agreement, Lucent and World Wide Packets will provide KPN with CPE that will support broadband connections between enterprise locations and KPN's Ethernet-based transmission network, enabling KPN's customers to access a broad range of business applications. Lucent Worldwide Services will deploy and maintain the network.
"This enhanced network will enable us to expand and strengthen our Ethernet-based business service offerings for our customers," comments Jan van Bekkum, manager for marketing and portfolio management of broadband services at KPN. "We are very pleased with the support we have received from Lucent and World Wide Packets, and look forward to continuing this valuable collaboration."
"Lucent is delighted to be working once again with KPN to supply value-added services to their subscribers," adds Huub de Klerk, vice president of sales, North Europe, for Lucent Technologies. "The newly established relationship with World Wide Packets has provided another valuable set of tools that complement our existing portfolio and further expands our ability to meet our customers' need for comprehensive, end-to-end solutions."
Under its agreement with World Wide Packets, Lucent will resell key elements of that company's LightningEdge family of products, which provide premises-based connectivity for optical fiber-based point-to-point Ethernet networks. Lucent says the products will enable KPN to extend its business service offerings to businesses of all sizes, from single-company office building to multi-tenant business locations.
"We appreciate the opportunity to work with Lucent to support the needs of innovative operators such as KPN," concludes Chad Whalen, SVP of global sales and marketing for World Wide Packets. "Our LightningEdge product family offers a cost-effective alternative for businesses to utilize the powerful capabilities of carrier Ethernet technology."
