Berk-Tek appoints new president

Kevin St. Cyr has been appointed president of Berk-Tek (New Holland, PA), succeeding Harold L. Styer, who is retiring as president and chief executive after a 30-year career with the company. St. Cyr, who joined the company in April 1996 as senior vice president of sales and marketing, had worked as vice president of sales and marketing for Champlain Cable Corp. for seven years.

Robin Bequet-Sharber has been appointed sales and marketing manager of ILX Lightwave (Bozeman, MT) and Michael P. Minneman has been appointed general manager of the company`s new fiber-optics division in Boulder, CO. Bequet-Sharber held a number of management positions at W.L. Gore and Associates, including sales and marketing manager for regenerative technologies and orthopedics product manager for the Medical Products Div. Minneman worked as general manager for network measurements at Keithley and vice president for research and development and operations at Montam Inc.

Margie Gurwin has been promoted to director of marketing communications and Paul Seiden was promoted to director of sales at Communications Specialties Inc. (Hauppauge, NY). Prior to joining the company in 1993, Gurwin worked for Tracy-Locke Advertising. Seiden was a sales representative for Omnivue prior to joining the company in 1992.

Wei Dong has been hired as a representative for the Beijing office of Ortel Corp. (Alhambra, CA), which recently opened. Her activities include promotion of the company`s products and market research, as well as strengthening company relationships with OEM customers and the Chinese government.

Dan DiLeo has been named vice president of optoelectronics for Lucent Technologies` Microelectronics Group (Allentown, PA). DiLeo has more than 25 years` experience in the semiconductor industry and most recently was head of the wireless and multimedia business. He replaces John Pilitsis, who retired this summer.

Ken Walker, head of the Optical Fiber Research Dept. at Bell Labs (Murray Hill, NJ), received the 1998 Engineering Excellence Award from the Optical Society of America. Walker, who was recognized for his technical achievements in optical-fiber manufacture, has made contributions in fundamental glass science as well as process development and manufacturing technology.

Ronald Rosenzweig has been appointed chairman of the board of anadigics Inc. (Warren , NJ). Rosenzweig, who co-founded the company in 1985, has served for 13 years as president and chief executive. Bami Bastani will succeed Rosenzweig as chief executive officer. Bastani will also be director of the company.

Brian Jervis has been appointed executive vice president of the Switching Products Group of Newbridge Networks (Kanata, ON, Canada). Jervis joins the company from Nortel Networks where he worked for 20 years and most recently held the position of vice president and general manager of multimedia networking.

Martin F. Seifert has been named vice president of SpecTran Corp. (Sturbridge, MA) and president of SpecTran Specialty Optics Co. Seifert has more than 15 years of management experience in the manufacture and marketing of electronic industrial equipment. He most recently served as chief operating officer of Schweitzer Engineering Labs.

John Clark has been named chief executive of the board of directors for the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE--Exton, PA). Clark, who has worked in the cable industry since 1980, most recently served as executive vice president for TELE-TV Media.

Mack V. Traynor III has been appointed president, chief executive, and board member of NEO Networks Inc. (Minneapolis, MN). Traynor currently serves on the board of directors of several private technology companies and is president of Manitou Investments Inc. Also, Mark Johnson has been named chairman of NEO`s board of directors.

James L. Chitkowski has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing for transmission products at Osicom Technologies Inc. (Santa Monica, CA). Chitkowski has 27 years of sales, marketing, and management experience within the telecommunications industry. Prior to joining Osicom, he held positions at Tekelec, DSC Communications, Siemens, GTE, NEC America, NovAtel Communications and, most recently, BroadBand Technologies.

Joe Roy has been appointed director of quality for Broadband Communications Products Inc. (Melbourne, FL). Previously, Roy was president and senior consultant of Leadership & Productivity Solutions Inc.

Scott Bausback has been promoted to vice president and general manager of the TV/Communications Test Business Unit of Tektronix Inc. (Beaverton, OR). Bausback was most recently director of marketing for the unit.

Juan-Felipe González Hidalgo has been named vice president of international sales for EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (Vanier, QC, Canada). González joined the company in 1993 as regional sales manager for Latin America and later served as sales director for Asia.

Don Rogers has been named manager of the newly formed Telecommunications Business Unit at Deposition Services Inc. (Santa Rosa, CA).

Conrad Burke is marketing director for optoelectronics at Lucent Technologies` Microelectronics Group (Ascot, UK). Burke joined AT&T in October 1992 as marketing and field applications engineer based in Tokyo. In 1995, he was promoted to marketing operations manager at the company`s optoelectronics headquarters in Breinigsville, PA.

Giulio Gianturco has been appointed executive vice president and general manager for North and South America at Newbridge Networks (Herndon, VA). Gianturco most recently worked at Cabletron Systems, where he held the position of president, worldwide channels development.

Kenneth F. Potashner has been appointed to the board of directors at Newport Corp. (Irvine, CA). Potashner is president, chief executive, and chairman of S3 Inc. and chairman of the board at Maxwell Technologies.

Clarence Phillips has been appointed president, Americas area, and John Steen has been named president, cable networks product line--Americas, for Alcatel (Hickory, NC). Phillips has been with the company since 1983 and has more than 30 years of business experience. Steen has been with the company since 1988.
