Telecommunications and CATV test equipment vendor VeEX Inc. has agreed to acquire “substantially all” of the assets of Sunrise Telecom Inc. (OTC: SRTI), the two companies say. Sunrise also makes test gear for telecom operators and cable MSOs.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction awaits shareholder approval; Sunrise has called for its annual meeting of shareholders to be held June 26 at its headquarters in San Jose to cross this hurdle. The companies expect the acquisition to close by the third quarter of 2013.

VeEx provides test equipment for a range of applications, including DSL, broadband, cable TV, metro, and next-generation transport networks. Sunrise Telecom does as well (see examples "Sunrise Telecom upgrades RxT Ethernet Service Activation Platform" and "Sunrise Telecom offers AT2500Plus spectrum analyzer for cable operators"), which indicates a fair amount of overlap between the two product lines. However, a quick comparison of the two companies’ respective websites indicates that the acquisition will provide VeEx with VDSL2 test capabilities it presently does not appear to have.
