Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ:VIAV) President and CEO Oleg Khaykin revealed during Viavi's fourth quarter 2017 earnings call August 15 that the company has acquired fellow test and measurement company Trilithic Inc. The new acquisition specializes in installation and troubleshooting tools for cable operator network applications, particularly in and at the home.

Terms of the deal, which closed August 9, were not disclosed. Briefing requests sent to both companies are awaiting response.

Privately held Trilithic offers a variety of handheld test instruments, including home certification meters, business services meters, maintenance meters, wireless test sets, and in-home leakage meters. It is also active in emergency alert systems. (Trilithic also owns a Thailand-based manufacturing subsidiary, Trilithic Asia Company, Ltd.) While the company offers at least some of these instruments to telcos, cable operators are Trilithic's main customers. Khaykin told attendees on the call the acquisition forwards Viavi's market consolidation strategy as well as extending its reach into the cable operator market. Viavi's existing cable-focused test portfolio, particularly instruments devoted to DOCSIS 3.1 deployments, were a bright spot during the recently concluded quarter, Khaykin said on the call.

Trilithic's trailing 12 months' revenue was in mid-$20 million range, Khaykin reported. He added that he expects the acquisition to be accretive this fiscal year. The Trilithic line should grow Viavi's revenue share in Asia, Europe, and Latin America among contractors and installers, Khaykin added.
