ADTRAN offers enterprise 10-Gbps Ethernet aggregation switch

March 8, 2016
ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) has unveiled a 10-Gbps Ethernet aggregation switch for enterprises, small businesses, schools, and similar applications. The company expects the switch to find use when network managers seek to upgrade from 1 Gbps to support higher bandwidth demands from VoIP, Wi-Fi, gigabit-to-the-desktop, and cloud connectivity requirements in light of the increasing availability of gigabit access networks.

ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) has unveiled a 10-Gbps Ethernet aggregation switch for enterprises, small businesses, schools, and similar high-speed network applications. The company expects the switch to find use when network managers seek to upgrade from 1 Gbps to support higher bandwidth demands from VoIP, Wi-Fi, gigabit-to-the-desktop, and cloud connectivity requirements in light of the increasing availability of gigabit access networks.

Network operators can use the 10G Ethernet platform as a top-of-rack core switch or an aggregation switch in data center environments. Link aggregation enables the output of four 10G ports to be combined into one 40G port at the physical layer for scalable high-bandwidth aggregation. ADTRAN says the switch also offers an open and programmable architecture consistent with software-defined networking (SDN) evolution.

"ADTRAN helps businesses make gigabit a reality—whether they are looking to leverage 1-gigabit services or prepare for the possibilities that are unfolding with 10G," said Chris Thompson, director, customer devices portfolio, ADTRAN. "We're enabling businesses to more easily support transformative gigabit services. ADTRAN's 10G Ethernet Switch is the next step in our path to connect the access network to the end consumer with next-generation technology and ultra-fast broadband speeds."
