The Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) has opted for Huawei OSN902 100G WDM data center system as part of its metro data center interconnect infrastructure, according to the systems house. Huawei says it worked closely with AMS-IX to create a tailored solution to the exchange's needs.

"AMS-IX has grown from two points-of-presence into a metro area network, built over hundreds of fibers. Since last year we have been looking for a data center interconnect (DCI) solution to bring down both cost and implementation time for extra bandwidth while ensuring a future-proof network for our customers," explained Henk Steenman, CTO of AMS-IX. "With its OSN902, Huawei has delivered a solution that perfectly fits these requirements. AMS-IX and Huawei worked closely together so that Huawei was able to provide us with a tailored, cost-efficient, and easy-to-manage DCI solution."

Huawei says that it has engineered the OSN902 100G WDM system to overcome the problems data center operators encounter in creating DCI infrastructure. These include incompatibility between traditional WDM equipment, which creates inefficiencies and difficulties in maintenance of optical equipment automation. The system provides highly secure encryption, high capacity, simple management, ultra-low power, and front-to-back cooling, the systems house adds.

"As enterprises and service providers adopt an ever increasing number of big data and cloud-based solutions, catering for the huge demands on their network capacity is a constant challenge for Internet exchanges," commented Wonder Wang, CEO Huawei Technologies Netherlands. "From now on, AMS-IX will be able to easily manage the traffic in its metro area network for the benefit of millions of end-users."
