Colocation and data center services supplier Equinix, Inc. (NASDAQ: EQIX) has launched the Equinix Data Hub, a turnkey data storage and retrieval service for enterprise customers. Data Hub bundles pre-configured colocation and power with cloud-enabled data storage services to enable enterprises to store and process data at the network edge.

Equinix believes that growing data processing and analysis needs will lead enterprises to rethink their data management and hosting strategies. The use of Data Hub, combined with Equinix Performance Hub and Cloud Exchange offerings, enables enterprise network managers to more easily meet their evolving requirements.

For example, Data Hub complements Performance Hub, Equinix's network equipment and interconnection service within the company's data centers, by offering turnkey deployment of IT equipment as well. Thus, Performance Hub can provide the connectivity that Data Hub resources will require, including connections to public and private cloud services. These include those accessible via Equinix's Cloud Exchange.

The company also will offer its Equinix Professional Services (EPS) as well as its channel partner resources to help enterprise customers to design the Performance Hub and Data Hub combination that best meets their requirements. Partners include NetApp, Dell, EMC, and Pure Storage, which Equinix says are integrating Data Hub into their data storage offerings. The company says it also is collaborating with reseller partners such as FusionStorm.

Equinix sees Data Hub as particularly useful for cloud-integrated tiered storage close to their sources, creating a Big Data analytics infrastructure, and data protection and replication use cases.

"Combined with the automation of connectivity and enterprise all-flash storage from Pure Storage, Equinix Data Hub allows customers to address seasonal or bursty workloads that have high performance storage, control and compliance needs with on-demand cloud infrastructure," said Matt Kixmoeller, vice president, product, at Pure Storage. "In addition, Equinix Data Hub makes a measurable difference in users' ability to derive actionable insight from data, in real time, by housing data closer to those users."
