Network-neutral interconnection and data center services provider Cologix said that their new 160,000 square-foot data center in Columbus (COL3) is ready for service. Located on the same 8-acre campus as Cologix's existing Columbus data centers, COL1 and COL2, the new facility is the largest neutral data center in Columbus, Cologix attests.

The 18 MW facility's initial phase is built on a concurrently sustainable design with 2Npower and N+1 cooling. According to Denver-based Cologix, expansion of COL3 continues, and will enable customers to choose scalable power by providing distributed redundant N+1 power configuration. Although COL3 has an EF-4 tornado rating, Columbus is not prone to natural disasters, making it well-suited for future growth.

The city is centrally located and offers low latency route alternatives to Ashburn, Atlanta, and Chicago, says Cologix. Positioned at a fiber-optic network cross roads, Columbusis a major fiber hub and provides access to over 50 network service providers within the Cologix data center, including the Ohio-IX Internet Exchange.

Cologix says that 47% of the population is within 500 miles of Columbus, and that the city is one of its fastest-growing markets. The redundancy, scale, and cloud and network connectivity of the COL data centers enable the service provider to meet increasing market needs.

"Columbus has been one of the fastest growing markets with the Cologix platform due to enterprise demand for robust cloud and connectivity choice," said Grant van Rooyen, chief executive officer, Cologix. "Our Columbus data centers are able to support and facilitate large cloud and enterprise deployments and we are proud of the role we play within the technology ecosystem in Columbus and look forward to continued investment in the market."

Tenants at the Columbus campus include cloud computing and communications services provider NewCloud Networks (see "NewCloud Networks leverages Cologix for Ohio cloud network footprint expansion"). Offering customers low-latency access to AWS US East 2 region, the Cologix data centers in Columbus deliver connectivity to more than 20 cloud service providers, including access to AWS through the AWS Direct Connect node.

In addition to Columbus, Cologix operates facilities in Dallas, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Minneapolis, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver
