Virgin Media Business deploys Infinera XTM Series platforms in Dublin fiber network

Virgin Media Business has deployed Infinera’s (NASDAQ: INFN) XTM Series optical transport platforms on its Virgin Infinity Ring in Dublin, Ireland, the two companies say. The deployment enables faster deployment speeds and increased metro aggregation capacity on the ring, which connects major data centers throughout the city.

The service provider will use the new capabilities to offer protected 10G and 100G services to data center operators. “The Infinity Ring provides the most available and reliable network service in Dublin, and is the backbone of its critical financial, medical, and government services,” commented Aidan D’Arcy, director of business for Virgin Media Ireland. “With Infinera’s XTM Series on our network, we benefit from a solution that provides highly resilient capacity to enhance our product offerings while lowering our network cost, a savings that we can pass on to our customers.”

The XTM Series brings the benefits of disaggregation to the Virgin Infinity Ring, including a pay-as-you-grow architecture and scalability without stranding capacity or chassis slots, the collaborators say. “The XTM Series continues to gain momentum throughout Virgin Media Business’ international networks for its ability to deliver on scale, high capacity, and ease of installment and deployment of services for their customers,” according to Nick Walden, senior vice president, worldwide sales at Infinera. “Virgin Media Business’ Infinity Ring network underscores the value the XTM Series can deliver in demanding data center environments.”
