Continuing an ongoing metro network expansion effort, Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN) says it has increase the footprint of its metro fiber-optic network in the area around Nashville, TN.

The fiber cable expansion now connects Windstream's network to a variety of major data centers and commercial locations in the Downtown, West End/Elliston Place, Midtown/Vanderbilt, Green Hills, Brentwood, Airport/Donelson, and Cool Springs areas.

The company says it also has expanded its fixed wireless capabilities in metro Nashville. Together, the two network expansion initiatives will further support Windstream's enterprise-class data, voice, network, and cloud services offerings.

"This is a big, ambitious project that will have a major economic impact on Nashville, and we are proud to be supporting the city's business community in this important way," said Eric Warren, regional president of enterprise sales for Windstream's south region. "Today's announcement reflects a significant investment that Windstream is making to expand its network of connected buildings in the Nashville area, which will help to ensure that it is one of the best-connected cities in the country."

The Nashville announcement follows similar expansions in Richmond, VA, and Charlotte, NC (see "Windstream expands metro fiber network in Richmond" and "Windstream finishes Charlotte metro fiber-optic network build"). The company plans further deployments this year to markets such as Atlanta, Minneapolis, Chicago, Cleveland and Philadelphia as part of its overall metro expansion strategy.
